George came into our lives as a 70 th birthday present for mom. Mom had fallen in love with Kerrie and Corissa's cat Fluff. Fluff was sweet and cuddly and loved to sit on your lap. Mom really loved the idea of having a lap cat for long winter evenings. So, her five children hatched the idea of surprising her with her heart’s desire for her birthday!
Brenda and Jay found a kitten
that looked a little like Fluff in their hometown in Georgia and brought him to
Rhode Island for mom's surprise birthday party. Mom loved the surprise and
loved George. He was an adorable kitten.
Unfortunately, George turned out to
not be a lap cat. Instead, he strutted around like a mob boss and would
often corner people when he was in a mood. He did not like to be
picked up. In fact, touching George at all was a test of bravery. George was
unable to meow like other cats. His meow was more of a croak. To show his displeasure
his eyes would turn red, and his tail would swish. If you saw these tell tail
signs it was wise to step away immediately. If you moved too slow you would bear
his teeth or scratch marks for weeks. Yet somehow, we found ourselves loving
George! He was just unique and will be greatly missed. George, some day we will
meet you over the rainbow bridge where just maybe you will be content to sit in
our laps at last. 💔
