Too-ral-loo-ral-loo, Too-ral-lee...... Far beyond the Northern Sea ! (1)

Our first Bradley immigrant ancestor who crossed the Atlantic Ocean was a women!!

Amelia Crow Bradley (1822-1903)

Amelia is the daughter of Arlom (2) Crow and Grace ( unknown maiden name). Amelia was a widower traveling with her two youngest children Grace and Alfred. They sailed on the ship "Calabria" out of Liverpool England and arrived in Boston, MA on October 2, 1871.

Amelia had been a widow for 14 years when she crossed the Atlantic Ocean at the age of  46. Her daughter Grace was 20 and  son Alfred was 18 when they made the journey with her. Amelia's  husband Alfred Bradley had  died in 1857 of kidney disease. He was 36 years old at the time of his death and  his occupation was  Wool stapler ( dealer in wool).

On Amelia Crow's birth and marriage record her father is listed as Arlom Crow. On her death certificate he is listed as Allen Crow. I suspect that when Amelia pronounced her father's name in her English accent in sounded like Allen. When Amelia dies her children put down her father's name as Allen because this is what they had heard their whole life. Then when it came time for Amelia's youngest son Alfred Bradley to marry and have children he named his youngest son Allen. This Allen Bradley is our Grandfather.

"Calabria"

Alfred Bradley is buried at St. John's Church, Burnlee, Upper Thong, York, England.
