I've inherited a few things from my family. Someday they will go to my daughter and she will either treasure them or send them to Good Will.
How will she decide what to keep and what to toss? It will all depend on the story. If she knows the story behind the item she might consider passing it on to her children but if she doesn't know why I treasure them then they may just end up in a dumpster.
This statue is of St Theresa of Lisieux , "The Little Flower" . (1) It sits in my memorial garden that I planted in my back yard for my mother-in-law Stella . The statue belonged to my Aunt Rita (Bradley) Fain. My mother (2) remembers that it sat it in Rita's back yard in Warwick, RI. I don't know why Aunt Rita (3) had a statue of St. Theresa. I do know that Rita was just 9 years old when her sister Theresa (3) was born and that Theresa died 2 days later. This must of made a big impression on a 9 year old. Was this why years later she decided to get this statue?
I also inherited these dished from from my grandfather William Walker. (4) They are from England which is where my grandfathers family came from.
In my kitchen I have a hutch that Aunt Mary(3) gave me. It belonged to her mother Mary (Stratton ) Bradley (3). My mother (2) remembers this hutch sitting in Rita's bedroom when they were growing up. When I received the hutch it was in disrepair. I did my best to make it use-able. Originally it had a brown stain and broken handles. I did nothing to the granite slab on top.
The picture came from my Grandfather's brother, George Walker. (4) He sent it to my grandparents Annalene O'Leary and William Walker (4) when they married in 1932.
