Come visit us at North End

Ma and Pop Bradley 1948.

Mary was 48 and Allen was 50 years old in this picture.

According to their daughter, Kathleen, this was an unusual picture because Pop always wore a cap. (1) He was born with a big bump on the front of his head and the cap helped hide the bump. Everyone knew Pop. He was very friendly. He was also a heavy drinker and liked to sing when he had been imbibing. One of his favorite songs was :

"I'll Take you Home Again Kathleen"

Kathleen, also said that Pop could make a meal from anything he found in the kitchen without using a recipe. This is a trait I like to think that he passed onto me!
This picture was taken 6 years before Pop died from stomach cancer in 1954.
Ma died from a heart attack 15 years later in 1969. They are buried together at North End Burial Ground in Providence, RI.
Ma and Pop Bradley are buried down past "Potters field" (2). On Sundays after Pop died Ma would take the bus to the North End and would be dropped off at the entrance (junction of Branch Ave and North Main Street, Providence).  It is a very long walk from the entrance of the cemetery to the actual grave site, but she would make this trek often to visit her beloved husband who had suffered so much before he died.
