Did you say we had Mayflower Ancestors?

Plimoth Plantation, Plymouth, MA I have not submitted the paper work to verify that my Mayflower claim is accurate but I am confident that I could prove our link to Richard Warren. There are published Mayflower genealogies that site sources for the relationships between Richard Warren and Samuel Cruff (Penelope Inman).(1) (2) I can prove that Artemas Cruff is the son of Samuel Cruff. Samuel Cruff left a will naming William Buffam guardian to his two sons Artemas and Dennis. Samuel fought during the Revolutionary War. My thought is that Samuel wanted to provide for his two sons in case of his demise during the war. Samuel ended up surviving the war but this document proves their relationship. My main problem is proving that Eliza Sprague Cruff is the daughter of Artemas Cruff and Anna Tefft. There are only two Cruff families living in Rhode Island during the 1830 and 1840 Census. Mabel Makes a Fresh Start

Mabel Brown Stratton Seven months after Mabel married Ira Stratton in November of 1895 their first child Edwin Perlia was born. How did they meet? Both families were farmers who lived about 7 miles apart in the neighboring towns of Sutton and Grafton. I have no pictures of a young Ira but from the picture I have of Mabel in her late 20’s she is quite beautiful. The sepia photo makes it impossible to see her auburn hair. Ira’s father Samuel served in the Civil War and married into the well know Bigelow family who were shoemakers in Worcester County, MA. Mabel Ellen Brown descended from Chad Brown who founded Rhode Island with Roger Williams. Marriage Banns for the couple were posted in both Grafton and Sutton but the couple were married in Berlin, MA by the Baptist pastor in the Congregational Church. Today we get our news from our smartphones, social media and 24 hour news outlets. Newspapers still exist but it is obvious that they are struggling to stay relevant. Gone is the day when the newspaper boy rode his bicycle to deliver the newspaper to your doorstep. Growing up I can remember my parents each with a section of newspaper lingering over breakfast. Now my mom reads the morning Providence Journal on her tablet. A hundred years ago news was local. It took time for what was happening in the world to reach our doorstep and by then it was old news. We found news of our neighbors highly entertaining. Everything was of interest; marriages, births, deaths, travel and just like today our ancestors loved a good scandal! For me as a genealogist these old newspapers are a gold mine. I get a rare glimpse into peoples lives that flesh out who they were besides just the facts of birth, marria...
